Disassemble Your Samsung Reality Phone

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damage you do to your phone while following my post. Hack at your cool Samsung phone at your own risk. :D

Now that’s out of the way. So why in the world would someone take apart a decent phone especially if you’re going to void your warranty? Well when I upgraded my second line apparantly I did not select the option for the warranty offered through Verizon Wireless. In any event this damage would have voided any warranty anyways. My fiance had a clumsy moment and spilled juice on her Samsung Reality. My first reaction was to suggest that she remove the back plate and battery to help dry things out. It started having problems due to the liquid damage such as a bad corner on the LCD and the bottom buttons used to make a call and hang up did not respond. I decided to do what I do and “take it apart” to ensure it was completely dried out and see where damage may be. I pretty much only disassembled the qwerty keyboard and  the bottom panel for the Make/End Call buttons are. So this was a partial disassembly of the Samsung Reality.  (See gallery below)

These were my steps:

  1. Removed the back panel and battery.
  2. Took out the microSD card
  3. Unscrewed the tiny screws located on the back of the phone, around the edge.
  4. You also need to remove the screw in the chamber where the battery sits.
  5. On the top right of the back circuit board there is a flat copper colored connection that wraps from the front of the circuit board. Gently disconnect that connector.
  6. Gently unclip the ciruit board around the top, sides and bottom.
  7. Beneath that board there is another screw you need to remove.
  8. You should be able to gently unclip the remaining keyboard parts

I cleaned the circuit board and keyboard pieces with alcohol as things were a bit sticky from the juice that my fiance spilled on the phone. Well..long story short the damage is beyond what I was able to see so this phone is about done with.. Either way it was fun taking the phone apart B)

Prior to the water damage this phone apparently was great according to my fiance. She was extremely happy with it.
