One of my neighbors was nice to give us their Starbucks Barista machine when they were moving out. Today I decided to test it out…learn how to use it. I powered the unit on and then a crazy “pop” and spark occurred. I checked my circuit breaker and the machine and things appeared ok… I powered it on again after following a simple tutorial I found on ineedcoffee.com, things started off smooth beginning with the milk frothing. When I attempted to start preparing the espresso I noticed that the no water appeared to be pumping from the tank.
I decided to take the Barista machine apart to see what makes it tick and get a closer look at things (see gallery below). I googled for the model of the water pump..and guess what? Apparently others have had the similar problems with their Barista water pumps. This blog came up in my search results detailing how to repair the pump. Before googling I tried calling the 800 number that was printed on the machine but apparently these machines are no longer supported. So I will be following this Ulka Repair blog. I will post my results later this week when I have time to go through this.
