I was at it again with my gadget and mods. I felt like building something one day using some computer parts I had sitting around. I went to a thrift store and purchased $10 dual VHS player/recorder. I went with that because it had the perfect size for my motherboard and PSU.
I gutted the VCR and only had to few minor modifications to the box.The motherboard was a perfect fit.
- Cut square in the back for the PSU
- Cut rectangle in the back for I/O panel
- Install motherboard riser screws
- Remove original power button and replace with momentary switch
Specs:
- GEForce 6100SM Motherboard
- AMD Athlon 64 3500+
- 32GB Solid State Drive
- 2GB DDR2
- Ubuntu 9.10
- XBMC (Open Source media center software for movies and music)
- Bluetooth connectivity with WiiMote for navigating XBMC
- Bluetooth connectivity with Logitech DiNovo mini keyboard
As you can see it’s not a real hardcore machine. I configured XBMC so that I can stream movies and music from my server. I also enabled the http server on XBMC so that I can administer the console through my Android phone app and from other PC’s on my home network.
