I’m a gadget junkie much like most of you who may not even realize it…Relating to electronics,? with each year that passes more and more focus is towards a particular device we typical know as a cell phone.? Back in the early 90′s that’s pretty what they were…one big huge briefcase-looking battery pack (cell).? Today commercials highlight either how lightweight they are or feature the over abundance of applications available. Wow! they have definitely come a long way.
You can call them what you like: cell phones, smartphones, pda phones..whatever. No matter what they’re called, the fact remains that they are more than a mobile ‘phone’. They are mobile PC’s, mini-mobile computing devices. Why I am so crazy about my smartphone? I am crazy about my smartphone because I live my life through it. I access my email, calendar events, Twitter, Netflix, web browsing,TV guide, grocery list…you name it.
Smartphones on the market boast about features that you probably look for in a small footprint PC and HD quality camera rolled up in one. Most new smartphones now come standard with LED flashes, HD quality video recording, storage expandable to 32 GB, not to mention vibrant OLED VGA displays. They also feature full mobile Operating Systems that fits whatever your fancy. Do you prefer the world of Windows? Well there are plenty to choose that feature a full Windows Mobile suite of applications. Are you more geared towards the Open Source community? Then maybe an Android-based phone will suite your needs.
If you have been following my blog you will know that I have an on-going CarPC project. The second phase of my project will include intergrating my smartphone as a backup/secondary CarPC. As far as I’m concerned the new smartphones being released are starting to share the same features, but I am looking forward to the release of Samsung’s Omnia II which has a confirmed TV-Out capability.
I suggest that you enjoy your smartphone and realize that it’s more than a tool for communication but you are actually holding a mobile computing device with endless possibilities.
