I am currently using an EEEPC 2G Surf as my CarPC and wanted to upgrade to something newer while still maintaining a small footprint and affordability. I am a member of the MP3Car forums which is great place for CarPC/Mobile Infotainment enthusiasts.
I learned about the Zotac IONITX A-U through one of the other members and started researching that Motherboard. The things that impressed me about the mainboard was that it featured:
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom processeor
- NVidia GeForce 9400M graphics card
- Came with PCIe Mini Wifi Card
- Up to 4GB DDR2
- 6 USB ports with 3 connectors onboard
- Onboard PSU
It has many other great common connections you would expect on newer motherboards (MOBOs). Further research led me to other Zotac IONITX boards that were a little less in price yet still got the job done. Then I found that the Intel D945GCLF2D Mini ITX board had basically the same features minus a few unnecessary ones for in-car usage when compared to the Zotac IONITX. I’m not planning on performing any hardcore gaming in my car. With that conclusion I finally decided to go with the Intel D945GCLF2D because it was less expensive with the same great features and still maintains a small footprint.
