I have an ongoing project developing a mobile computing solution in my 2005 Altima. This project was originally an EEEPC 2G Surf Install which I have mounted under the front passenger seat. I have since decided to redesign or modify my project.
My plans are to dismantle my center console in my Altima and modify the storage bin (which is wasted space) as a ‘PC Tower’.
This is going to take some thinking through because I also need to prevent static due to the plastic interior of the storage as well as optimize for airflow, not to mention careful measure and design for fitting everything.
This is list of the project details:
- Modify storage bin in floor console as PC MOBO and component tower.
- Intel D945GCLF2D Mini-ITX Mainboard–I actually paid less than what is advertised at Logicsupply.
- M2 ATX 160W Intelligent DC-DC Automotive PSU
- Lilliput 629GL-70NP 7″ VGA Touchscreen or some other LED backlit monitor
- M350 Mini ITX Case- (Will be modified to integrate with storage bin)
- Wii Remote for bluetooth connectivity with XBMC (I already own but may be replaced by Centrafuse altogether)
- DiNovo Mini Bluetooth Keyboard for alternate interaction with desktop (I already own)
- PCIe Mini Wifi Card
- 120mm Case fan for storage bin mod (use as exhaust)
- 32GB SSD (SATA)
- Windows 7
- Centrafuse North America Navigation
So these are the items that I own or have purchased so far for my ReMod:
- Intel D945GCLF2D Mini ITX Mainboard – Purchased.
- Logitech DiNovo Mini Bluetooth Keyboard – Already own and works great!
- 32GB SATA SSD – Purchased.
- Wii Remote — For bluetooth connectivity/interaction with media- Already own (maybe??..because it works well for me on LINUX..lets see how Windows does)
- Windows XP (already own)…in case Windows 7 ends up being drama
These are the things I still need:
- M2 Automotive 160W DC-DC PSU
- Windows 7
- 2GB DDR2 Modules
- PCIe Mini Wifi Card (w/antennae) b/g/n
- 120mm Case Fan – airflow exhaust for center console storage bin.
- Dremel tool kit
- LED Backlit Touch Screen
You can follow the details of my project at the MP3Car Forum.
